Bec Pecaut is a nonbinary filmmaker living between Los Angeles and Toronto. They received their BA at NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study with a self-titled degree in “Storytelling,” and went on to complete their MFA at USC’s School for Cinematic Arts in the Writing for Screen and Television program. Bec’s directorial debut was a short proof-of-concept for their award-winning feature script, ‘The Terrible Child,’ shot in 2021 with the support of OPC Films in Toronto. They are currently developing the feature version with a 100k endowment from the Canada Council for the Arts Explore and Create grant, awarded in 2022.

Their short film “Are You Scared to Be Yourself Because You Think That You Might Fail?” had its world premiere at TIFF (2024) where it won the Short Cuts Award for Best Canadian Film and was subsequently selected for Canada’s Top Ten (2024). This short will premiere internationally in-competition at Sundance (2025) and at Clermont-Ferrand (2025).
